Basia in Tokyo

The Blue Note Tokyo has the setlists from this week's shows! There were two each night.

Also, Basia was brought there also by the Polish Embassy. A link to the listing and their other amazing events- I'm also drooling at the illustration and Poster Bienniale listings!

Nasza Basia Kochana

It's a pun that Polish press likes to use a lot so I'll do it too. ['Our beloved Basia'- also the name of an unrelated group that was popular in PL.]

Here's a video from the Zabrze show that captures a strong "It's That Girl Again" and a minute of a slightly tentative "Drunk on Love" that shows one of the reworkings. DOL has a bit of a samba feel. Also, Jaworzno represents.
EDIT: Another angle.

This is a review of the concert in Poznan.

And an interview before all the concerts. I have to say that the press there is coming up with even more interesting interview themes for her. It's awesome. (translation forthcoming)

Your at-home Sala Kongresowa experience*

*from 1994, but still- Basia, Danny, Kevin, Annick, and Veronique were there then and were there tonight. This is for all of us who could not be there. Huge thanks to Krysia on these.

We'll embed a couple then link the rest, just so the front page isn't gigantic.

"Yearning." If you can't watch the whole clip, you must, if nothing else, move forward to about the 5:02 mark. The coda to "Yearning" becomes "Szła dzieweczka do laseczka" and Basia's voice is left alone in the huge hall-- the crowd joins her shortly, but they can't be heard over her one, haunting voice. It will remind you why you are a fan, as if you needed reminding.

Tour coming. EP may be coming.

So much went by in a whir there that I think a couple very important parts may have been lost in the hoopla:

THERE'S GONNA BE A TOUR!!
THERE'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE A 3-SONG EP!! OF NEW SONGS!!

Ok, just wanted to put that out there. :p

Piotr says, "Regarding the tour Basia mentioned that she will be starting in September and going to the States and the Far Asian countries (inlc. Japan) and Poland. There is also a plan to go to South Africa. She will start the tour with a smaller band and bigger number of back up vocalists (2 of the musicians will sing as well). Some songs need to be rearranged and they will sound more acoustically. The concerts will probably be at smaller venues at first to continue in larger ones with larger band in 2010. If I understood it properly, the record label has plans release so called EP with 3 (new?) songs when Basia goes on tour in fall. I have to come back to the interview when she spoke of EP to get a better understanding... Then there might be the re-release of ITGA in Poland with bonus tracks (Oh mama, Clear Horizon). Basia's songs should also be available for sale through her website, anytime soon."

(also see Krysia's below!)

Hello! If I don't see some comments for this post I will be very disappointed in you all. ;)

Dzień Dobry TVN clip: Basia and Danny, acoustic "A Gift"

Direct link to all the videos from this show.

This is exhibit A in the case for an acoustic tour, IMHO. And Basia was sick here!

Amazing live video from Poland 1994!

Krysia and Marcus in a labor of love brought these clips to YouTube of Basia live at Sala Congresowa in 1994, broadcast on Polish TV Channel 1 later that year. Let's just say they are AMAZING:

"Best Friends" live

I'm willing to bet this is on Letterman in 1990. Thanks Krysia for the alert!

EDIT: fan Phil has a VHS of this labeled 1989-- wowza, remember tapes? ;) Thanks Phil.

And as a postscript to the "Astrud" clip, Peter White chimes in the forum there:
"That certainly is Richard Elliot on baritone sax- he was brought in just for the Carson show and I think that I may have even recommended him. By the way, did anyone notice Marc Antoine on guitar? He did that tour with Basia(1987 or 1988?) as I was on tour with Al Stewart at that time."

That's pretty sweet, I had no idea that was Richard Elliot!

For the audio geeks: "an arsenal of sonic weapons"

The sound engineer on the Matt Bianco tour talked to ProSound News about the mike setup for the shows. I'll just nod and smile along, being a mere layperson.

O'2L to open for Matt Bianco from April 5-16

For the first group of shows, the opening act will be O'2L. We love this group, like MB they have a really cool, barely classifiable sound and yes, they do have a song that recalls the Star Wars Cantina band. That's just how fun they are. And they have the classically-trained sauce, not to mention a former Megadeth member. We can't make this up. Check out their site to understand what we are talking about.
