Calypso!

Basia and Danny gave the Humboldt State College band props for their calypso "Astrud" on their site recently and the local press gives them back. Gotta love it!

If only I could get that horn hook in the original as a ringtone...

"Copernicus" covered on A'Capella ExpreSSS album

It's a really creative version of the song, too, by a Russian pop/jazz/etc acapella voice group. The album, Voice MeSSSage, will be out in the fall. Listen to the song here and listen to the other songs here. If you like vocalese and jazzy choral groups you should be all over this.

"Promises" covered on upcoming Julie & Khari album

The album is called Moon Bossa and it will be released next month on Dune Records. According to Khari Simmons' site: "we pay homage to the 1970's era. It's also a homage to great songwriters like Basia, Swing Out Sister, Everything but the Girl, Sergio Mendes and Jobim. In fact it travels and visits every aspect of that genre [bossa nova], every decade from the 1960's to the present." According to the Incognito forum Bluey Maunick has some part in it too. I think I just might be buying this one sound unheard.
