Samples

of the Peter White album particularly "Love Will Find You" are on Amazon. Unsurprisingly, the track is a close sister to "Oh Mama."

Basia on Peter White album, out next Tuesday

Hey, don't forget about the release of Peter White's newest, Good Day, next Tuesday the 8th. Basia and Danny guest on the track "Love Will Find You." From the press release:

"The genesis of “Love Will Find You” is an intriguing story. The basic elements of the song were originally submitted to White by his younger brother, guitarist/songwriter Danny White, who had written it with Basia, his long-time collaborator. White earned partial songwriting credit by rearranging Basia’s vocal line and putting his own melody on top of it. “I basically took the song that she and Danny wrote, chopped it up, took her scat part – which she sings at the beginning and at the very end in the original version – and put it into the middle of the song as well,” he says. “I use it as a hook throughout the song. I just thought it was cool that we could collaborate like this and come up with two versions of the same song.”

I don't think any of us object to any production decision that results in more Basia!

Danny meanwhile: 'Love will find you' is mainly instrumental with Basia providing some backing vocals.

The story behind 'Love will find you' is;
I send PW an early backing track which was to become 'Oh Mama' for him to provide some guitar work and send back to me.
PW calls me to say 'I've come up with a melody for it.'
DW 'We've already got a melody for it"
PW 'Oh!'
DW 'Lets do two versions of this idea-one for Basia and one for you'
PW 'OK!'

In Darwinian terms 'Oh Mama' and 'Love will find you' have a common ancestor
and there you have it!

So you are going to be buying the album or at the least downloading the song, yeah? Advance word on the album around the interwebs is that it's a return to form for PW.

Basia on Peter White album this fall

A post on magicisland.com by Eric Viccaro reads:

Peter White's Peak Records debut will be called "Good Day," and it's slated for release later this summer.

The date is still unknown. However, here are some juicy details on the project.

...

The new CD contains 10 all-original tracks, and several longer songs sure not to fit into anyone's format, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

"Always, Forever," "Temptation," "Mission 2 Mars" and "Bright" are some of the top pieces on the release. "Bright" is dedicated to the late, great Wayman Tisdale.

Michael Egizi co-wrote the title track, "Good Day." Former Rippingtons' keyboardist David Kochanski co-wrote "(Un) Forgiven" with the help of beats laid down by DC. "Love Will Find You" features Peter's brother Danny White as well as beautiful vocals supplied by Basia.

In addition to DC, Peter White's new CD is co-produced by Phillipe Saisse.

Here's the track listing, and song durations:

1, Good Day (White/Egizi) 5:55
2, Always, Forever (White/DC) 5:08
3, Just Give Me A Chance (White) 4:39
4, Love Will Find You (P. White/D. White/Basia) 3:16
5, (Un) Forgiven (White/Kochanski) 5:18
6, Temptation (White) 6:18
7, Mission 2 Mars (White) 5:46
8, Bright (White) 4:13
9, Lamont's Lament, Ramon's Revenge (White) 6:56
10, Say Goodnight (White) 3:38

"Springtime Laughter" lyrics

From Bob Stewart on the Basia2 list:

"For years several of us tried unsuccessfully to determine the correct
lyrics, resulting in several different lyric versions.
So, I decided to contact a co-writer of the lyrics, Joan Beal.

I sent Joan an e-mail containing one of the versions,
and asked her if she would please verify and correct it for us.

Joan very kindly and graciously did exactly that
in a very warm and beautiful e-mail to me.

We should all be very thankful to her."

And we are-- you can find the lyrics here. Great for all of us waiting for spring.

Danny plays in London next week at Pizza Express

It's time again for Danny to sit in with his bro Peter White and saxophonist Jaared at Pizza Express in Soho, London. It's been about three years since they started doing these shows, and reports always rave about them. I think anyone who has seen Danny play live-- especially during the 2005 tour-- would say that it's something you should definitely check out. More info here.

The album is done.

Yes.

Danny says:

"We finally finished mixing on friday-13 songs, the 13th
having a Polish lyric (musically its somewhere between
"Come to heaven' and 'Rachel's wedding' if you can
imagine that!)

"When Basia was in Poland recently she recorded her
friends & family singing along which we included in
the song giving it a Polish singalong party vibe. The
song is a celebration of the arrival of her nephew's
newborn baby daughter.

"It's a nice feeling for the record to be finished-the
next thing is to master it and then work on the sleeve.
Release/record companywise we're still working on but
as soon as there's some definite news I'll let you
know."

My heart's all pitter patter, I don't know about you reading this right now.

Also, for those lucky ducks across the pond:

"Peter was over recently and I'll be playing with him
at the end of April."
Go see him please and better yet, cam the performance for those of us not so lucky!

Danny guests on Mark Reilly solo project

We first heard about Mark Reilly's upcoming solo project (he being the male singer in Matt Bianco) a couple years ago and were really glad to see some of the new tracks on his MySpace. The one entitled "This Moment" has Danny playing a bit. It's nice stuff all around especially if you enjoy Spanish guitar, so do check it out.

Danny with Peter White in the UK and Poland

Danny will be sitting in with the band again in October as Peter White plays more shows at Pizza Express in London, a date in Warsaw (same place Basia played in '94, no less) and a night at a club in the North. For more, see Peter White's site. Clearly this is a second chance for those of you who missed him back in April— don't let this one go by!

Don't forget: Danny playing London shows with Peter White

Danny will be on keyboards for his brother Peter's week-long engagement at Pizza in the Park in London, from April 12-18. That's next week, hello. I believe the last time Danny performed sans Basia was in the late '90s, so a chance like this doesn't happen very often.

Short but sweet: Nissan commerical online

Thanks to Mariko, who found a clip of the commercial for the Nissan Teana featuring Basia singing a snippet of "Smooth Operator." When the intro Flash movie pops up, hit 'skip' and wait for the screen to load. When it does, click on Focus CM. Then wait for the clip to load. Got all that? Then go here and again marvel at the amazing alternative universe that is Japan, where a commercial can be cool enough to have Basia covering Sade.
