The coda to "Yearning" becomes "Szła dzieweczka do laseczka" and Basia's voice is left alone in the huge hall-- the crowd joins her shortly, but they can't be heard over her one, haunting voice. That's pretty sweet, I had no idea that was Richard Elliot!

Prime Time TV clip

Way, way, wayy too cute a video from 1988-- I'd love to see the oversized suit come back. And Kevin looks the same as now, which is crazy. What is this show, anyway? The set reminds me of old Arsenio but the audience is way too large. Another show from Europe, maybe?

I had no idea there were two videos to "Promises", but sure enough there were, and here are both of them side by side.

Returning to YouTube are two US late night TV clips from Time and Tide--"Astrud" and "Run For Cover". There is also a clip of the amazing "Yearning" video-- it has the highest production value and is the most conceptual of the Basia videos so do watch.

Hello from the (temporary) new nervecenter in suburban Detroit! News is that there isn't a whole lot of news-- the music is going great and almost wrapped up, it's the business stuff we're waiting on. In the meantime enjoy this clip from the 2005 tour and this 1990 TV appearance before YouTube inevitably removes them.

Unfortunately I can't read Japanese to learn more about this clip, but is it ever a gem. And I seriously love love love the skirt. Here's hoping this lasts on YouTube long enough for you to see it. Thanks to Beverly for the tip (I am a bit late on posting this).

Approximately thirty seconds

The video for "Half A Minute" has found it's way onto YouTube (thanks to Frank Johnson for the alert). This track, later covered for Basia on Broadway, was well-received by jazz-dance club DJs at the time, though the English pop world had figured MB were just a novelty act after the runaway success of "Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed". But this video shows Matt Bianco were in on the joke, too, and winking right along. And this first look at Basia as lead vocalist would prove a glimpse of things to come.

Live on American TV, and some natty jewel thieves

Long ago a bunch of fans gathered up their videocassettes (remember those?) and their LDs and sent them to the one guy who had the equipment in an age before iDVD to dub them onto CD-ROM- and thus the Basia Video Project was born. Our esteemed site founder, Ben, then got everyone hooked up with their own copy. The fandom rejoiced.

Ten years later and during another (thankfully finite) slow period we have the endless fun that is YouTube, something that couldn't even be conceived of in those days. Even more video goodness: First, there's the second number from that Tonight Show episode, this time "Astrud." Check out who I think might be Marc Antoine on guitar, in a look he'd probably just as soon forget.

At this point I'm feeling quite spoiled, but there's also the video to "Until You Come Back To Me" (shot at Seattle's Paramount) and another fab Matt Bianco mini-movie, "Sneaking Out the Back Door," in which Basia out-hustles street thugs at cards and Danny engages in print-on-demand the old fashioned way. I really love those old Matt Bianco videos. Let all this booty tide you over until the next album update.

More fantastico Basia videos

Someone is going buckwild uploading videos to YouTube so I thought I would alert you to them since they are not to be missed. "Promises" is far too cute to not be in the Eighties. "Time and Tide" is good fun ("Basie?" "It's Basia."), and "Baby You're Mine" is one of the most gorgeous video clips they ever did. Meanwhile in the twenty-first century is the clip for "Ordinary Day," apparently liberated from the Matt Bianco site, and further proof that Basia doesn't really age like most mortal women. EDIT: ALL of these clips have been removed. You know, it's a shame that this material won't be enjoyed by people because of rights paranoia. This stuff has been "lost" for years-- or were never played where actual fans could enjoy them-- so why not give them the light of day, instead of shoving them away to nowhere in the name of copyright.

Well, it's actually the Matt Bianco "Get Out of Your Lazy Bed" video, from the days where there was a fourth Bianco (Kito Poncioni, on bass). I wonder what the stakes were of this game? EDIT: Removed by YouTube.

Wow, I want to be in a place where MTV plays Basia and calls it a classic! Wherever this was, a fan taped it and uploaded it to the fantastic YouTube site. And we thank him or her for it 'cause they also uploaded "Cruising for Bruising" and "New Day For You" (OMG! Old-school VH1!).
